Facebook or Fakebook?

On Aug. 26, 2024, Mark Zuckerberg (CEO of Facebook) sent a letter to the House of Representatives, essentially justifying (apologizing?) for left-leaning bias in Facebook that had affected the last presidential election. He states that the Biden Administration “repeatedly pressured our team” to censor certain COVID-19 content they disagreed with. Such content included the origin of COVID being from the Wuhan Laboratory in Central China, the funding of dangerous virus research by the CDC, etc. Zuckerberg states in the letter that this pressure from the Biden Administration was wrong, that Facebook should not have censored this information, and that “we’re ready to push back if something like this happens again.”

It is interesting to note that Zuckerberg is critical of the Biden Administration now that Biden is out of the picture. Zuckerberg acknowledges another instance of Facebook bias, the Russian disinformation operation. The recent House of Representatives Committee Report on Oversight and Accountability presents evidence of the Biden family’s dealing with foreign entities while Biden was vice president. Before the last presidential election, a story in the New York Post disclosed that the Biden family was involved in influence peddling, receiving payment from foreign governments. Facebook demoted (censored) this information, waiting for it to be checked out by left-leaning fact-checkers. As a result, the story was suppressed until after the last presidential election.  In his letter, Zuckerberg states, “It’s since been made clear that the reporting was not Russian disinformation, and in retrospect, we shouldn’t have demoted the story.” It’s interesting that the terminology used by Zuckerberg, “demoted,” is really “word salad” for “censored.”

In conclusion, Zuckerberg states, “My goal is to be neutral and not play a role one way or another — or even to appear to be playing a role.” Don’t believe it! A recent photo of the former president with a bloody head and his fist raised in defiance immediately after the assassination attempt was determined to be misinformation by Facebook. Shortly afterward, Facebook admitted to an error “caused by their software” and withdrew the misinformation tag from the photo. For a company that employs hundreds of software engineers and operates a complexity of software to commit such an error is simply not credible. Characterizing the former president’s photo as misinformation was most likely purposeful.

Other media platforms do the same thing. For instance, if one searched for Trump rally on Google, the top response was the Harris rally. Querying Trump rally on Brave.com resulted in the top response, Trump rally. With the newly-appointed (not elected) presidential candidate from the Democrat Party, the gas-lighting about her accomplishments has reached levels unheard of in politics, in my opinion.  Dissertations on her accomplishments on Facebook and other social platforms should be viewed with skepticism and compared with her previous comments and actions.

Essentially, most social media platforms cannot be relied upon to provide unbiased information crucial for making an informed voting decision in the upcoming election. However, some search engines like DuckDuckGo.com and Brave.com do yield reasonably unbiased results. In my view, Fox News and Newsmax are usually informative and truthful. The Dan Bongino radio program also presents factual information that the mainstream media often ignores. The legacy media appear to be sycophants since their reporting is almost identical in wording, suggesting that they have been given “talking points.” Zuckerberg now confirms that the past presidential election was affected by media bias and censorship. Zuckerberg says this will not happen during the upcoming election. Don’t bet on it!
