The Rochelle Lady Hub track and field team traveled west for the Sterling Night Relays on Thursday evening, with the varsity girls finishing seventh out of eight schools while the fresh-soph girls took sixth out of seven schools and the throwers placed third out of six schools.

STERLING — The Rochelle Lady Hub track and field team traveled west for the Sterling Night Relays on Thursday evening, with the varsity girls finishing seventh out of eight schools while the fresh-soph girls took sixth out of seven schools and the throwers placed third out of six schools. Rochelle will host the annual Ogle County Championships at RTHS on Tuesday.

Junior Erin Murphy and senior Kyra Bivins led Rochelle in the field events, with Murphy finishing fourth in the shot put behind a mark of 9.87 meters and Bivins taking seventh in the discus throw behind a mark of 31.97 meters. Junior Dempsey Atkinson scored Rochelle’s best finish in the field, taking second in the high jump with a height of 1.47 meters. Freshman Elyse Manning led the Lady Hubs in the pits, placing sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.55 meters. 

Rochelle finished fifth in both the 400-meter relay (Alex Neece, Zoe White, Arline Villanueva and Dempsey Atkinson) with a time of 56.03 seconds and the 800-meter relay (Alex Neece, Zoe White, Arline Villanueva and Dempsey Atkinson) with a time of 2:01.69. The Lady Hubs took seventh place in the 1600-meter relay (Kyrie Cragin, Arline Villanueva, Carmela Bright and Kylie Smith) with a time of 4:42.96 after finishing in eighth place in the 3200-meter relay (Mary Chadwick, Brisa Zepeda, Rose Luxton and Emely Hernandez) with a time of 12:03.77.

At the fresh-soph level, Rochelle finished fifth in both the 400-meter relay (Valerie Saldana, Ryelee Bogle, Katie Toczylowski and Elyse Manning) with a time of 55.82 seconds and the 800-meter relay (Valerie Saldana, Katie Toczylowski, Reese Kissack and Elyse Manning) with a time of 2:01.38. The Lady Hub throwers took third in the 400-meter relay (Kyra Bivins, Mary Chadwick, Sawyer Stockton and Aaliyah Losoya) with a time of 1:02.45.
