ROCHELLE — Kent Morris Chidley, 84, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 in Tampa, Florida.
Kent was born on Oct. 6, 1934 to Keith and Edith (Morris) Chidley in Palatine. He attended the University of Illinois where he was a member of Nabor House Fraternity. He married Arlene R. Redeker on Oct. 22, 1955 in Palatine; she preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 2018. Kent served in the United States Army from 1957 - 1959 as part of the anti aircraft command.
Kent’s true life passion was farming. He and his wife, Arlene, traveled together with friends on an Alaskan cruise, a trip to Mexico and they enjoyed winters in Florida. He was president of the Illinois State Corn Growers Association, and served on many organizations: the National Corn Growers Association, U.S. Feed Grains Council, Rochelle Hospital Board, Kings School Board, Ogle - Lee Fire Board, St. Paul Lutheran Church Board and was a member of the Rochelle Lions Club for many years. He served on the Flagg Township Board of Trustees for many years.
Kent is survived by two children, Kevin (Lisa) Chidley of Rochelle and Michelle Barrett of Pennsylvania; brother, Larry (Agnes) Chidley of Dixon, and sister-in-law, Jan Chidley of Dubuque, Iowa; six grandchildren, Andrew (Danielle) Chidley, Matt (Josie) Mitchell, Sara Mitchell, Kenneth Ness, Alison Larison and Taylor Martin; four great-grandchildren, Chase, Jack, Camryn and Bruce and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his wife and parents, Kent is predeceased by his brother, Al.
The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 12 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1415 10th Ave., Rochelle, with Pastor Gregory Hoffmann officiating. A luncheon will be served from noon to 4 p.m. at the Rochelle V.F.W., 318 4th Ave., Rochelle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kent’s memory to the Rochelle Lions Club or Darkhorse Lodge, 1951 Swor Rd. Springville, TN 38256 (www.darkhorselodge.org), which is a peaceful retreat for combat veterans.
