ROCHELLE – The City of Rochelle and the Rochelle Community Consolidated School District #231 recently announced an upcoming personnel transition within the joint school resource officer (SRO) program.

After several years of dedicated service, Officer Sydney Jackson will be deployed with the National Guard this fall. Officer Bart Silva, a certified SRO with two years of experience serving the Rochelle Police Department, will fill the role until Officer Jackson’s return next fall.

“Officer Sydney Jackson has been a vital part of the Rochelle school community, contributing to the safety and well-being of students, staff, and families,” a city and D231 press release said. “Her approachability, commitment, and ability to build positive relationships have made a lasting impact. In addition to ensuring safety on campus, Officer Jackson has been instrumental in mentoring students and participating in numerous school initiatives aimed at fostering a supportive and safe educational environment.”

"Officer Jackson's service to the schools and the greater community of Rochelle has been nothing short of exemplary," Jason Harper, superintendent of D231, said. "Her dedication to the safety and success of our students has been impressive and she will always be part of our school family."

“As we wish Officer Jackson well during her time away, we are excited to welcome Officer Bart Silva,” the press release said. “Officer Silva comes to this position with a strong foundation in law enforcement and a clear passion for working with young people. With his certification as an SRO and his experience within the Rochelle Police Department, Officer Silva is well-prepared to step into this vital role. He has shown dedication, professionalism, and a deep commitment to the Rochelle community during his time with the department.”

"Officer Silva is an excellent fit for our schools, and we are confident that he will continue to build on the positive relationships and initiatives started by Officer Jackson," Pete Pavia, RPD chief, said. "His energy and focus on community engagement will be key assets in ensuring our schools remain safe spaces for learning."

RPD and Rochelle Schools thanked Jackson for her service to the community and welcomed Silva to his new role.

“All involved agree this program remains a crucial part of the city and district's commitment to fostering a safe, supportive, and positive school environment for all,” the press release said.
