Ronald L. Macklin, 88, of Rochelle, died Monday, August 12, 2024 at Liberty Village in Rochelle, IL surrounded by his family.  He worked at Macklin’s Quarry in Rochelle for 62 years and was a member of Local 150 Operators.

ROCHELLE — Ronald L. Macklin, 88, of Rochelle, died Monday, August 12, 2024 at Liberty Village in Rochelle, IL surrounded by his family.  He worked at Macklin’s Quarry in Rochelle for 62 years and was a member of Local 150 Operators.

Ronald was born on March 7, 1936 in Steward, IL to Harry and Gertrude (Kugler) Macklin.  After graduating from the Steward High School, he married Elsie Gittleson on April 27, 1957.

Ron was a member of the Rochelle United Methodist Church.  He was also a past Steward town board member, volunteer fireman for the Steward Fire Department, and a former Rochelle VFW and Moose Club member.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Macklin of Rochelle; sons: Todd (Rebecca) Macklin of Dixon, IL and Terry (Bonnie) Macklin of Steward, IL; daughter, Teresa (Craig) Friday of Ashton, IL; eight grandchildren: Angella (Kyle) Horton, Andrew (Kate) Macklin, Nathanial (Jessica) Macklin, Lucas (Angela) Macklin, Lovely Macklin, Hope (James) Rahn, Grace (Trevor) Guerra and Justin Friday; and twelve great-grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Macklin; sister, Betty Sanders and great grandson, John “Jack” Macklin.

Ronald was an avid Chicago sports fan, especially the Chicago Cubs.  He truly enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events.  He spent his free time fishing and building birdhouses. 

The visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 16, 2024 at the Rochelle United Methodist Church, 709 4th Ave., Rochelle.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 17 at the church with Pastor Catherine Paisley and Judy Williams officiating.  The burial will follow the service at Trinity Memory Gardens, Rochelle.  Memorials may be made in Ron’s memory to the Rochelle United Methodist Church or Unity Hospice.  Visit www.ungerhorner.com to sign the online guest book.
