ROCHELLE — At Monday's Rochelle City Council meeting, Life Saving Awards were presented to Rochelle Police Department School Resource Officer Jim Jakymiw and Rochelle Fire Department firefighter/paramedics.
Those from RFD honored Monday were Lt. Jason Underwood and Firefighter/Paramedics Ben Johnson, Zech VanVickle, Brian Edwards, and Javier Salinas.
On Feb. 1 earlier this year, Jakymiw and RFD responded to a medical emergency at Rochelle Township High School. They were recognized Monday for providing life-saving efforts during that incident.
The student that first responders helped at RTHS on Feb. 1 came to Monday's council meeting and thanked them with a card and presented Jakymiw with a painting she made him.
RPD also presented yearly awards to three other members of the department on Monday. The Dispatcher of the Year award was presented to Alison Owen. The DUI Enforcement Officer of the Year award was presented to Sgt. Jim Gilliam, and the Traffic Enforcement Officer of the Year award was presented to K9 Officer Trevor Owen and his partner, K9 Odie.
