ROCHELLE — At its monthly meeting Monday, the Rochelle Township High School Board of Education unanimously approved lunch price changes for 2024-2025. Five menu items went up 10 cents in price, while all others remained the same.
The district works with Arbor Management to offer lunches to students in the RTHS commons. Arbor Management reviewed its offerings and presented the changes to the board. Larger price increases have been seen in recent years due to inflation.
"It actually kind of surprises me that we're not seeing larger increases this year," Board President Tom Huddleston said. "I thought this year would be big too."
Buses
The board resolved to move forward with a bid process for activity buses. RTHS has three 14-passenger activity buses whose leases and lease extensions are expiring in June. The buses would be replaced with new 2024 or 2025 activity buses. The new leases would start July 1, 2024. The current buses are five years old. The district typically leases buses for three years, but the current ones were kept an extra two years due to light usage during COVID-19.
Perrin
RTHS Principal Chris Lewis recognized Assistant Principal David Perrin for his receipt of the Illinois Principals Association Assistant Principal of the Year Award for the Northwest region of the state and presented a plaque to him. Perrin will retire at the end of the year.
Personnel
The board unanimously approved personnel changes including the resignation of Sally Sawicki (bus driver) and the employment for the 2024-2025 school year of John Dobbs (assistant cross country coach and volunteer assistant boys and girls track coach), Bobby Gardner (assistant girls soccer coach), Katie O'Rorke (volunteer assistant cross country coach) and Karl Olsen (drumline instructor).
SAT
SAT and practice SAT testing will take place for students on Tuesday, April 16. For the first year, the testing will be done completely digitally. Lewis said it's possible that the standardized testing could move back to the ACT soon due to a bid process.
