Cross Country: Rochelle runners earn awards at Interstate 8 Championships

Ortiz, Johnson medal in varsity race for Lady Hubs

MAPLE PARK — The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub cross country teams competed in the Interstate 8 Conference Championships at Kaneland High School this past weekend. The Lady Hub varsity team finished sixth out of seven schools, while the Hub varsity took eighth out of eight schools.

Junior Yuelma Ortiz and senior Sara Johnson earned medals for the Lady Hub varsity team. Ortiz finished 10th out of 46 varsity runners with a time of 20:46.41, while Johnson placed 14th with a time of 21:06.64. Junior David Wanner ran the fastest time for the Hub varsity team, taking 23rd out of 54 runners with a time of 18:33.60. Seniors Josue Huerta and Peter Forsberg finished 32nd and 34th with respective times of 19:32.57 and 19:53.54.

The Rochelle Hub fresh-soph team took third out of three schools in the conference meet. Sophomore Parker Lenkaitis and freshman Chris Hickey each earned ribbons for their respective performances. Lenkaitis finished 13th out of 27 runners with a time of 19:41.31, while Hickey placed 14th in 19:53.86.

Rochelle will compete in the IHSA 2A Burlington Central Regional on Saturday.
