House destroyed by fire

STILLMAN VALLEY – A fire driven by high winds destroyed a home on Hayrack Trail in Stillman Valley on Tuesday, May 1.
No one was hurt in the blaze.
Stillman Fire Chief Chad Hoefle said that when firefighters arrived at the home, neighbors reported people might still be in the house, so he went inside and searched. He said the two occupants were asleep in a basement bedroom and were able to get out before the fire consumed the house.
“The wind was certainly our enemy as it is with any fire,” Hoefle said. “With the fire starting on the south side and the wind pushing in that direction, it was a fight from the beginning.  We do not know yet how it started, but we know now by looking at video as well as camera angles that the fire was in the entire attic area as the fire department pulled up.”
Firefighters from Stillman Valley, Oregon and as far away as Harlem/Roscoe were on the scene of the fire, which started about 11:30 a.m. Hoefle said he was thankful to all the firefighters who came and assisted.
