ROCHELLE — One local company is continuing its mission to help students.
On Aug. 21, CHS Ethanol Plan in Rochelle continued their stewardship to Ogle County Educational Cooperative. CHS issued a donation to the cooperative in the amount of $7,500. This money will be used for the purchase of six Tower Gardens for six classrooms within OCEC, including four PLUS classrooms and two classrooms at Chana Education Center.
These classrooms provide specialized instruction to students with a variety of disabilities within special education. There are 12 member school districts within the Ogle County Educational Cooperative.
The tower garden system is a vertical, aeroponic tower structure that allows you to grow up to 20 plants such as fruits, vegetables, spices, or flowers, using the one unit. The Tower gardens will be used as tools to grow young minds in the areas of science, math, literacy and other subject areas. Students will learn healthy habits such as eating wholesome foods and will be able to grow fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs, throughout the school year using their Tower Garden. Classrooms were provided with “The Power of a Plant” by Stephen Ritz, donated by Mrs. Emily Hussey.
