ROCHELLE — A discovery within the walls at the former Hub Theater has stirred some fond memories for one family and also led to some new friendships.
Construction crews at Kennay Farms Distilling uncovered a billfold in the northwest corner walls, which was later determined to belong to a gentleman by the name of Roy Swanson.
Inside the wallet were several documents, including a voucher for the DeKalb Theater and a repair receipt from Fisk Motor Company, all pinpointing to around the year 1930 — in between the theater’s original construction that spanned five years.
Aubrey Kennay said after posting the discovery on social media, the Kennay family received a call from Rochelle resident Susan Young, believing to know the whereabouts of Swanson’s family.
This is when the story took a coincidental turn.
