New business for Creston one step closer

CRESTON — A possible new business in Creston is one step closer now that the trustees approved a development agreement.

As outlined, the prospective business owner must meet all village building codes and specifications before receiving a liquor license. The café featuring gambling machines would be located on the property near the intersection of Main Street and Ill. Route 38.

Village attorney Russell Crull indicated the property would need to pass inspection before the village would amend the current alcoholic beverages ordinance. Business owner Cindy Jensen approached the village in the fall requesting a liquor license. According to president Wayne Williams, Jensen operates similar-type businesses in surrounding communities including Rochelle and DeKalb.

Trustees approved a motion to use up to $50,000 of Motor Fuel Tax funds for village street repairs. Trustee Curt Ward said the initial estimates came in at around $37,000.

Following a presentation of the fiscal year 2017 audit, village trustees made a motion for approval. Trustees also approved a sexual harassment policy ordinance, required within 60 days of passing in the Illinois legislature.

The trustees reviewed revisions to the water sewer ordinance. Of those discussed, clarification is needed to define where the owner’s responsibility starts. The revised ordinance will show that correction. Trustees are expected to vote on the revised ordinance next month.

Any repairs to the sewer covers in the village will be started in the spring.

Rochelle city manager Jeff Fiegenschuh introduced to the trustees, expressing interest in attending future meetings. Also present, Jason Bird, Supt. of Electric Operations as well as Adam Lanning, Supt. of Water/Water Reclamation for Rochelle Municipal Utilities.

Absent from Tuesday evening's meeting were trustees Tom Byro and Greg Hopkins.
