DIXON — A singles sweep and two doubles points allowed the Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team to score a nonconference road victory over the Dixon Dukes on Tuesday evening.
Senior Jimmy Chavez conceded only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alex Basilio at the No. 1 singles court, while sophomore Philip Winters handled Will Lindenmeyer for a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 2 singles court. The singles victories enabled the Hubs to score a 4-1 win over the Dukes and snap a five-match losing streak. Rochelle (4-8, 1-4 Interstate 8) will return home on Wednesday, when the Hubs celebrate Senior Night with a match against the Harlem Huskies.
Senior Parker Lenkaitis and sophomore Mark Green earned a hard-fought win over Bashar Elbzour and Owen Winters at the No. 1 doubles court, rallying from a first-set loss to take both the second and third sets in a 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory. Seniors Eli Luxton and Austin Raleigh overcame a tough first set and showed dominance in the second set of their 7-6(1), 6-2 win over Jack McGrail and Sam Gingras at the No. 3 doubles court. Senior Alex McBride and sophomore Caleb Mortensen fell 6-0, 6-1 to Jayvian Herwig and Derek Miller at the No. 2 doubles court.
