CRESTON — A salon in Creston is going to the dogs for a good cause on Saturday, June 3.
The third annual “Help the Homeless (Pets),” presented by Panache Salon and Day Spa will feature many ways the community can help support homeless animals including dog adoptions.
The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the salon located at 101 Main St. in Creston. Along with adoption services, there will also be a silent auction, bake sale items, and dog treats. Pet owners are welcome to bring their furry friends as nail trims and microchip services will be available.
Salon owner and event organizer Beth Burlison said 100 percent of money raised will go to animal shelters. She also explained the reason she conducts the fundraiser.
“I’m a huge animal lover and my daughters and I volunteer at [an animal shelter],” Burlison said. “We just want to do something to raise money for the shelters and raise awareness and hopefully get some animals adopted.”
The event is also an opportunity for animal lovers to donate much needed supplies, food, or treats. These include paper towels, clippers, liquid laundry detergent, hand soap, cat litter (unscented, non-scoopable), and canned dog and cat food.
Burlison said last year’s event raised $500. This year the goal is $1,000.
Several of the items available in the silent auction include salon spa packages, Headon’s, Cypress house, Big R, and Casey’s gift cards.
“The other girls at the salon are a wonderful help,” Burlison said. “We all work together as a team as well as my daughters’ helping. This is a team effort.”
