On May 6, Pegasus Special Riders in Oregon hosted a class of students from the Lee County Special Education Association’s Transition Program for a workshop that focused on horse care and interaction.

On Saturday, a grand opening event was held for the recently-constructed Creston-Dement Public Library. The festivities included a ribbon cutting, food, music and tours of the new building at 201 N. Main St. in Creston.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Creston Village Board of Trustees saw officials sworn in following the April 1 election.

The City of Rochelle recently saw completion on April 20 of a new mural it commissioned in the downtown area on the south side of the second story of ALM Fine Cabinetry. The location enables traffic coming from the south on the overpass to see the mural.

On Wednesday, April 30, the Rochelle Area Community Foundation hosted its annual Community Needs grant award event at the Lincoln Arts Center in Rochelle. 41 grants were presented to area nonprofits and organizations at the event.

At its meeting Monday, the Rochelle City Council heard a presentation by City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh regarding the potential future implementation of a tax increase due to the state's one percent grocery tax being set to expire in January 2026.

At its meeting Monday, the Rochelle City Council unanimously approved a resolution earmarking $3.7 million in Northern Gateway tax increment financing (TIF) funds for a future Illinois Route 251 reconstruction and expansion project. 

The grants were awarded at RACF’s Granting Futures event, hosted April 24 at Luna.
