A familiar face stood between Rochelle Lady Hub wrestler Dempsey Atkinson and a historic feat during the IHSA State Championships on Saturday afternoon.

The Rochelle Wrestling Club battled in the IKWF North Regional at Byron High School on Sunday, with six individuals bringing home division titles during the tournament.

After a historic season where the Rochelle Hub varsity wrestlers won a school-record 28 dual matches and advanced five individuals to the IHSA State Championship meet in Champaign, the program returned this winter with an equally as impressive campaign.

The St. Paul Lutheran School fifth and sixth-grade boys basketball team won the St. Paul Tournament over the weekend, finishing 3-0 over three games.

With its season on the line and an IHSA 3A Regional Championship victory in the balance, the Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team erased a 20-point deficit and gave the Freeport Pretzels everything they could handle, coming within three points in the final minute.

The Rochelle Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball team hosted Prairie Knolls in North Central Junior Conference action on Thursday, falling 45-11.

On Feb. 21 at approximately 8:45 a.m. Yulisa Regalado-Lopez, 25, of Rochelle turned herself in to the Ogle County Jail for an outstanding Ogle County warrant for cancelled, revoked or suspended registration. She appeared in court on Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. and was released on a recognizance bond.  Regalado-Lopez will return to court on April 8 at 9 a.m.

Jon Gehm said his focus during his first season as head coach of the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity basketball team was to ensure the girls were playing their best basketball at the end of the season.

A new mindset and a commitment to defense were what fueled the Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team’s IHSA 3A Regional Semifinal win over Woodstock on Wednesday.

At its monthly meeting Tuesday, the Ogle County Board unanimously approved a resolution of support for an amendment to the Lee-Ogle Enterprise Zone that would see it grow in size.

The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team turned in a double-digit winning season this winter, finishing second in the Interstate 8 Conference for the season and qualifying three bowlers for All-Conference recognition.

The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent five athletes to the 2024 Champaign Grappler at Centennial High School on Sunday. One athlete brought home a first-place finish, while two others secured second-place finishes and one took home a third-place finish.

Lucille was born in Rochelle in 1892 and attended school in the three-story brick school at Fifth Avenue and Sixth Street. The school housed all grades from elementary through high school. It was 1910 when Lucille was a featured soloist at the school’s Thanksgiving Festival and graduated from Rochelle High School. For Lucille this was only the beginning of her education.
