LEE — Arnold B. Stangeland, 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 23 surrounded by his loving family, at his home in Lee. Arnold was born on Feb. 17, 1930 to Gustav and Louise Stangeland in Chicago. He was a Rochelle Township High School graduate, and then he proudly served with the United States Army. On Jan. 8, 1971, he married Alfhild Njoten in Rockford. Arnold was a lifelong farmer in the Lee area. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Arnold enjoyed birdwatching and in his younger years he did a lot of traveling; Norway being one of his favorites. He also loved automobiles and working on them.
Arnold is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alfhild of Lee; two daughters: Melissa (Doug) Kanwischer of Bettendorf, Iowa and Julie (James) McLearen of Woodridge, Illinois and two grandchildren: Dax and Brynn Kanwischer.
The visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, March 27 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. There will be a private family funeral service on Monday, March 28 with Pastor Jeff Schlesinger officiating followed by the burial at the Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
