The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team saw three players receive All-Conference recognition from the Interstate 8 this season. Junior Braden Alfano earned First-Team honors, while juniors Andy Buskohl and Eric Briseno each brought home Honorable Mentions this season.

“I’m very honored to have been selected to the All-Conference First Team,” Alfano said. “I will use this as motivation to continue working hard for next year. I felt that I performed really well on the mound, but I still feel I need to continue working on all aspects of my game.”

Rochelle finished 7-12 this season and 4-10 in the Interstate 8. Alfano led the Hubs in multiple pitching categories, recording a team-best 2.65 ERA over 31 and two-thirds innings while striking out 41 batters. Alfano added one home run and seven RBIs at the plate for Rochelle.

“This year, as a team, we wish we could’ve won more games and went on a run in the postseason,” Alfano said. “Our goal for next season is to make a deeper run in the playoffs.”

Briseno led Rochelle with a .438 batting average, totaling a team-high 28 hits with six doubles and an extra-inning home run against Dixon in the IHSA 3A Regional Semifinals. Buskohl finished with a .365 batting average, 19 hits, six doubles, three home runs and 19 RBIs.
