ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hub varsity bowling team celebrated Senior Night on Thursday, when the purple and white hosted Geneseo for its final dual match of the 2023-24 season.

Seniors Jon Alanis, Sam Tracey, Christian Thorne and Noe Valdez were each honored in a prematch ceremony, where each athlete received recognition and a gift for their contributions to the Rochelle Hub bowling team. The Hubs were unable to bring home a win in their final dual match, with the Maple Leafs handing Rochelle a 3,464-3,130 defeat. The Hubs (10-7, 5-3 Interstate 8) will compete in the Interstate 8 Conference tournament in Peru next Tuesday.

“Jon, Christian and Sam are all varsity players and they’ve been huge contributors for us,” head coach Jim Lyles said. “Noe’s a new bowler and it’s been nice having him out as well… I think we’re positioned really well for the conference meet and we’re in a really tough regional this year, so it’ll be tough for us to get out as a team, although I think we could if everything goes well. I think we have three or four individuals that could make it out of the regional as well.”

Both teams fought well to claim the first game, with Geneseo edging Rochelle 1,086-1,078 behind a 215 from Bryce Sanders and a 213 from Landen Pruett. Alanis rolled a 215 and Tracey scored a 191 in the opening game for the Hubs, who fell behind in the series after conceding a 1,207-1,081 loss during the second game, where Pruett fired a 244 to lead the Maple Leafs. Carter VanOpdorp contributed a 205 and Quinnland Einfield added a 209 for the Geneseo side.

The Maple Leafs clinched the nonconference sweep of Rochelle with an 1,171-971 victory in the third and final game of the match. Pruett’s 227 resulted in a team-best and match-best 684 series for the Maple Leafs, while VanOpdorp shot a 214 for a 595 series and Einfield rolled a 188 for a 570 series. Alanis was the high scorer for the Hubs, finishing with a 562 series while Tracey ended the evening with a 549 series after shooting a series-best 203 in the third game.
