OTTAWA — Senior Jimmy Chavez recorded the Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team’s lone win during Friday evening’s Interstate 8 Conference matchup against the Ottawa Pirates.
Chavez took a close first set before dominating the second set to score a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Ayden Sexton at the No. 1 singles court. Chavez’s win helped Rochelle avoid the shutout in a 4-1 loss against the Pirates. The Hubs (3-4, 1-3 Interstate 8) will play at DeKalb on Monday.
Sophomore Philip Winters battled against Landon Sawin at the No. 2 singles court, taking seven total games in a 4-6, 3-6 loss. Senior Parker Lenkaitis and sophomore Mark Green combined to claim five games in their 3-6, 2-6 loss at the No. 1 doubles court, while seniors Eli Luxton and Austin Raleigh earned two games in a 1-6, 1-6 loss at the No. 2 doubles court. Freshmen Derek Swartz and Connor Hunley took five games in their 4-6, 1-6 loss at the No. 3 doubles court.
