Rochelle scores two doubles points in 3-2 loss

MORRIS — The Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team faced Morris on the road Tuesday, falling 3-2 and moving to 5-11 on the season. Rochelle will conclude its season with the Interstate 8 Conference Championships on Tuesday before battling in the IHSA 1A Geneseo Sectional on Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5. The Interstate 8 Varsity Championships will be held at Ottawa and the Interstate 8 Fresh-Soph Championships will be held at Rochelle.

Morris won both singles matches on Tuesday. Sophomore David Wanner faced Justin Metesh at No. 1 singles, falling 3-6, 1-6. Junior Alex Gilbert took on Aryan Patel at No. 2 singles, losing 2-6, 2-6. Rochelle conceded one doubles point, with juniors Jason Zheng and Devansh Patel falling 1-6, 0-6 against Redskin netters Patrick McPherson and Jack Hansen at No. 1 doubles.

The Hubs scored two doubles points overall, with sophomore Owen Haas and junior Peter Forsberg bouncing back from a first-set loss to defeat Michael Wiechen and Jacob Rudnicki 3-6, 6-4- 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Parker Lenkaitis and sophomore John Green cruised against Alex Duffy and Ricardo Valdez, winning the No. 3 doubles match 6-1, 6-0.
