WEST BROOKLYN — Duane Howard Ackland, 85, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021 at the Rochelle Community Hospital in Rochelle. Duane was born on Nov. 26, 1935 to Howard and Ethel (Oakland) Ackland in Rochelle.

He served with the Army National Guard. On Sept. 17, 1961, he married Marie E. Morris at Reynolds United Methodist Church in Ashton. She preceded him in death on March 17, 2010.

Duane had a deep love for his family and an incredible passion for his lifelong adventure of farming. He enjoyed all sports, especially the ones his children and grandchildren participated in.

Duane was a member of the Reynold’s United Methodist Church in Ashton and was very active over the years in various capacities. Duane had many dear friends and enjoyed attending social functions, especially church luncheons.    

Duane is survived by his three children, Cindy (Darrel) Santala of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Jody (Tom) Zhe of Rochelle, and Dean (Laurie) Ackland of West Brooklyn; brother, Lloyd (Carolyn) Ackland of Compton; sister, Marilyn (Daniel) Sandoval of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Jamie (Aaron) Sharpe, Douglas Silvius, Jessica Zhe, Jacob Silvius, Kyler Ackland, Kortney Ackland and Kaleb Ackland; four step grandchildren, Robert Chase, Lane McKenna, Adam Santala and Brie Torres; and five great-grandchildren, Willow and Paxton Sharpe, Leah Scarbrough, Laken Ackland and Blaire Ackland.

In addition to his parents and wife, Marie, Duane was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kelsie Silvius.

The visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 29 at Reynolds United Methodist Church, 2496 Reynolds Road, Ashton. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on Friday with Pastor Seamus Enright officiating. Burial will be at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
