MALTA — Edgar L Plapp, 94, lifelong Malta farmer, entered his eternal home on Sept. 18, 2021, surrounded by family.
Born at Glidden Memorial Hospital on March 20, 1927, he was the oldest child of Martha M. (Woltman) and William E. Plapp. In 1950 he wed his lovely bride, Rosalie Nelson, of Ceresco Nebraska.
Edgar had a passion for music, travel, farming, friends, and family. He farmed in northwest Malta until 1994, retiring to Evening Shade and later to Cherokee Village, Arkansas. He returned to DeKalb County with his move to Oak Crest Retirement Center in 2017, several months after Rosalie’s death.
Edgar is survived by sister Shirley Hudson, five children, Avis J. (Sam) Williams of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, Marla J. Smith of Hardy, Arkansas, Aaron J. (Tamara) Plapp of Nora, Muriel J. (Russell) Hinshaw of Topeka, Kansas, Adrian (Debra) Plapp of Malta, daughter-in-law Kim Plapp of DeKalb, 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Edgar in death are his parents, wife Rosalie, brother Elvin, sister-in-law Betty, brother-in-law Bruce Hudson and his youngest son, Myron Plapp.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore.
Celebration of Life service will be held at Malta United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2 with a 10 a.m. visitation prior to the service.
Burial will be at Malta Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the Plapp Agricultural Heritage Museum. Memorials may be made to the Edgar Plapp Family in care of Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb, Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
