Galvan earns KEC Student of the Month honors

ROCHELLE — Melanie Galvan decided to enroll in the Early Childhood Education program at the Kishwaukee Education Consortium as a Rochelle Township High School sophomore, well before we knew of anything called Coronavirus.

Galvan began her course of career track education in August by opting to attend classes at KEC and at RTHS in person after having finished out her sophomore year sheltering in place from March through May.

It was a good decision both for she as well as for the little ones enrolled in the Kishwaukee Preschool program. Early Childhood Instructor Chris Kipp chose Galvan as the November Student of the Month.

“Melanie has really impressed me with her strong start with the preschoolers,” Kipp said. She added that Galvan invested significant effort in her activity planning, including reading an English/Spanish book aloud and teaching the preschoolers a few Spanish words.

“Melanie’s interactions with the preschoolers are also strong,” Kipp said. “She is clearly committed to this class and working with the preschoolers.”
