Lady Crusaders bring home trophy to cap off 28-5 season

LOMBARD — The St. Paul Lutheran School girls basketball team went 2-2 over four games to finish seventh in the LSA State Championship tournament this past weekend.

The Lady Crusaders opened with a 36-21 victory over Chester’s St. John Lutheran in Arlington Heights on Friday. St. Paul advanced to the quarterfinal round on Saturday in Roselle, where the girls fell against Rockford Lutheran in a close 25-17 battle.

Moving into consolation play Saturday afternoon, the Lady Crusaders lost 30-20 against Bloomington’s Trinity Lutheran. St. Paul finished the tournament strong with a 35-28 victory over Edwardsville’s Trinity Lutheran on Sunday in Lombard.

The St. Paul varsity team finished its season with a 28-5 overall record. Additional team accomplishments include the Fox Valley Lutheran Conference Championship, the Meridian Conference Championship, the Route 31 Tournament Consolation Championship, second place in the Marengo Tournament and second place in the Lombard Tournament.
