ROCHELLE — Four members of the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity soccer team received All-Conference recognition from the Interstate 8 this season. Senior forward Ayah Sbeih and junior defender Lizbeth Milan earned First-Team All-Conference, while sophomore midfielder Kyra Rimstidt and junior defender Lucy Monroy took home All-Conference Honorable Mentions.
“I’m very honored to have won this award,” Sbeih said. “I think it’s a great way to end my senior season and my soccer career. I thought I grew as a leader and I always tried to help the team out as provide advice for my teammates as much as I could. I thought I improved on defense and field positioning. I moved from spot to spot during games and I adjusted well.”
“I’m proud of myself,” Milan said. “I really worked hard this season but I didn’t expect to receive this award. I did my best to motivate the team out on the field. I want to work on my attacking skills for next season. I’m proud of my team. We played our hardest during each game and I hope that we can win more games and work on handling the ball next year.”
Sbeih spent four seasons with the Rochelle Lady Hub soccer program including three seasons on the varsity team. The senior forward finished with 17 shots, seven shots on goal and two corner kicks this season. Milan started at center back for the Lady Hubs this season, which was her third on the varsity team, recording one goal, 10 shots and four shots on goal.
Rimstidt led Rochelle with 45 shots and 21 shots on goal while finishing second on the team with three goals. Monroy totaled 16 shots and six shots on goal in her third varsity season.
“Although our record may not show it, we improved tremendously throughout the season,” Sbeih said. “We worked well together and we were able to work as a team, which we struggled with earlier in the season. I’ll miss the bonds I built with my teammates. I made the best memories with them and they made the season so much fun. I made so many friends on the team and I always looked forward to practice or games after school.”
