MACHESNEY PARK — Junior Ashley Lozano-Barragan and senior Kendyl Darby brought home the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team’s first doubles victory of the season Wednesday evening, when the purple and white took the court against Harlem in nonconference play.
Lozano-Barragan and Darby teamed up for a three-set win at the No. 3 doubles court, outlasting Harlem’s Kare Schemel and Sierra Oyen 5-7, 6-3, 10-7. The victory allowed Rochelle to avoid the shutout, as the Huskies took both singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to hand the Lady Hubs a 4-1 loss. Rochelle (0-1, 0-0 Interstate 8) faces Belvidere on Thursday.
Senior Sydney Carmichael conceded a 1-6, 1-6 loss against Mia Besevic at the No. 1 singles court, while junior Merit Namaste-Rose fell 1-6, 2-6 to Kristina Gjini at the No. 2 singles court. Seniors Lauren Dyer and Abby Metzger gave Elaina Parnello and Leah Badgley a battle at the No. 2 doubles court, falling 4-6, 5-7. Seniors Kitty Williams and Erin Murphy played a tough second set in their 2-6, 5-7 loss to Ana Besevic and Melina Colerra at the No. 1 doubles court.
