ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team has increased its win total in each of the last three seasons. Head coach Lizzie Cartwright and the Lady Hubs will be swinging to extend that streak to four seasons when Rochelle serves up the 2021 season this fall.

The Lady Hubs finished 6-12 during the fall season this past year, placing third in the IHSA 1A Rochelle Sectional with four medalists including seniors Jordin Dickey and MeLisa Young, who return as the top doubles pair for the Lady Hubs. Rochelle took sixth in the Interstate 8 Conference meet and scored one conference victory against the Morris Redskins.

“We’re excited to be back out here,” Cartwright said. “We’re hoping for more team wins and more individual wins this season. We’re continuing to develop our skills and our focus has been on improving our consistency. We want to cut down our unforced errors as well. As long as we work hard, I think we have a lot of potential, even though we’re in a tough conference.”

Seniors Josie Lundquist and Megan Thompson are two more returning players who could step up for the Lady Hubs in doubles this season. Seniors Emma Hicks and Margaux DaCosta each have varsity experience in singles and could solidify the Rochelle lineup on the singles courts. The Lady Hubs will open the season with a home match against Lutheran on Tuesday, Aug. 24.

“Emma and Margaux both enjoy playing singles so I think they could step up in those roles,” Cartwright said. “Jordin and MeLisa work really well together and I’m excited to see what they can do this season. I think having Josie and Megan back will help us a lot as well. I’m optimistic about our season and we have a lot of potential to improve in the conference and sectional.”
