The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team held its first home match of the season on Tuesday, facing Sycamore in Interstate 8 action. Both teams competed in a new conference format that features six singles matches as well as three doubles matches.

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team held its first home match of the season on Tuesday, facing Sycamore in Interstate 8 action. Both teams competed in a new conference format that features six singles matches as well as three doubles matches.

The Spartans claimed all six singles matches while sweeping each of the three doubles matches to hand the Lady Hubs a 9-0 loss on Tuesday. Rochelle (0-3, 0-1 Interstate 8) will return to the court Wednesday afternoon, when the Lady Hubs face DeKalb on the road.

Senior Catherine Williams took three games in her 1-6, 2-6 loss against Lizzie McConkie at the No. 1 singles court, while senior Erin Murphy claimed two games in her 1-6, 1-6 loss against Maggie Klein at the No. 2 singles court. Senior Abby Metzger battled against Taylor Zemanek at the No. 3 singles court, earning three games in her 2-6, 1-6 defeat. 

Senior Lauren Dyer took two games in her 1-6, 1-6 loss against Peyton Wright at the No. 4 singles court, while senior Yaretzi Villalobos won a team-best four games in her 1-6, 3-6 loss against Grace Majerus at the No. 5 singles court. Senior Sydney Carmichael was shut out in her 0-6, 0-6 loss against Addison Kuhns at the No. 6 singles court.

In doubles action, Catherine Williams and Erin Murphy played a close second set at the No. 1 court, falling just short in a 0-6, 5-7 loss. Lauren Dyer and Abby Metzger claimed five games in a 3-6, 2-6 loss at the No. 2 court, while senior Kendyl Darby and junior Ashley Lozano took four games in a 2-6, 2-6 loss at the No. 3 court.
