ROCKFORD — Senior Kendyl Darby brought home the lone match win for the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team during Thursday’s nonconference match against Rockford Lutheran.
Darby earned the start at No. 2 singles for the Lady Hubs, outlasting Rockford Lutheran’s Nina Delmundo for a 7-5, 6-4 victory. The win highlighted Rochelle’s 4-1 loss to the Crusaders, who swept all three doubles matches and claimed the No. 1 singles match to score the team victory. The Lady Hubs (2-4, 1-1 Interstate 8) will face Streator on the road Saturday afternoon.
Senior Abby Metzger started at No. 1 singles, taking six games in a 3-6, 3-6 loss against Violet Sjostrom. Junior Ashley Lozano and senior Yaretzi Villalobos played a hard-fought No. 3 doubles match against Hailey Robins and Izzy Hallgren, falling 6-7 in one set. Seniors Natalie Wagner and Sydney Carmichael took six games in their 3-6, 3-6 loss against Kysa Mikel and Ava Buczkiewicz at No. 2 doubles, while seniors Erin Murphy and Catherine Williams claimed one game in their 0-6, 1-6 loss to Melissa Hillman and Megan Hillman at No. 1 doubles.
