MORRIS — Senior Sydney Carmichael accounted for both wins the Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team scored during Tuesday evening’s Interstate 8 match against the Morris Redskins.
Carmichael cruised in her No. 6 singles match against Brianne Temme, winning 6-2, 6-2 before taking the court for doubles alongside senior Natalie Wagner. Carmichael and Wagner united for a hard-fought victory against Milena Muffler and Gianna Marino at No. 3 doubles, outlasting the Morris combo for a 6-7, 6-3, 10-7 win. Despite the two victories, Rochelle was unable to find wins elsewhere, with Morris taking the remaining matches to hand the Lady Hubs a 7-2 loss.
Senior Catherine Williams fell 0-6, 0-6 against Skyler Saelen at the No. 1 singles court, while senior Erin Murphy fell 0-6, 0-6 against Julia Borgstrom at the No. 2 singles court and senior Abby Metzger fell 0-6, 0-6 against Olivia Novick at the No. 3 singles court. Senior Lauren Dyer took four games in her 2-6, 2-6 loss against Cassie Bernal at the No. 4 singles court and Wagner claimed five games in a 2-6, 3-6 loss against Anna Bibly at the No. 5 singles court.
Williams and Murphy faced Shreya Patel and Meghan Bzdill at the No. 1 doubles court, earning three games in their 2-6, 1-6 loss. Dyer and Metzger claimed two games in their 2-6, 0-6 loss against Callie Fullerton and Harmony Heisterman at the No. 2 doubles court. Rochelle (2-7, 1-2 Interstate 8) will return to the court with a home match against Sterling on Wednesday.
