Girls Tennis: Rochelle takes second in Lady Hub Invitational

Varsity team scores road victory at Mendota on Monday

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle varsity girls tennis team hosted the Lady Hub Invitational on Saturday, with several players earning awards for their performances in the tournament. Rochelle placed second as a team.

Seniors Jordin Dickey and MeLisa Young led Rochelle with a first-place finish in the No. 1 doubles competition. Senior Madison Ost took second in the No. 2 singles bracket, while senior Emma Hicks placed third in the No. 1 singles competition.

Seniors Josie Lundquist and Megan Thompson teamed up for second place in the No. 2 doubles bracket, with senior Ashley Knight and junior Abby Tarvestad uniting for second place in the No. 3 doubles bracket.

Mendota

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity tennis team faced Mendota on the road Monday, winning 4-1 and improving to 4-7 on the season. Seniors Jordin Dickey and MeLisa Young topped Kaylee Balkman and Jackie Cortez 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while seniors Josie Lundquist and Megan Thompson defeated Zoe Finley and Lizzie Bresley 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 in three sets.

Senior Ashley Knight and junior Abby Tarvestad bested Isabelle Escatel and Markie Myers 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles to complete a doubles sweep. Senior Madison Ost won 6-1, 6-3 over Tayla Schwaegerman at No. 2 singles, while senior Emma Hicks fell 2-6, 2-6 against Alex Stremlau at No. 1 singles.
