Helen Eileen King, 91, of Rochelle passed away on Saturday, March 12 at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon. Helen was born Aug. 2, 1930, to Ray and Alice (Phelps) Handlin in Rochelle.

ROCHELLE — Helen Eileen King, 91, of Rochelle passed away on Saturday, March 12 at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon. Helen was born Aug. 2, 1930, to Ray and Alice (Phelps) Handlin in Rochelle.

Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She married Gary Francis King on March 22, 1950. She worked for Rochelle Township High School in the library for 20 years.

Helen was a member of Rochelle United Methodist Church, PEO and the Rochelle Community Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, playing bridge and making her famous fudge and apple pie.

She is survived by four sons, Graham (Shari) King of Madison, Wisconsin, Matt (Jackie) King of Rochelle, Brian (Mary) King of Bakersfield, California and Tony (Lynn) King of Hampshire, Illinois and one daughter Lisa King of Byron.

Helen was also survived by 12 grandchildren: Pete (Jill) King of Austin, Minnesota, Eric (Angel) King of Austin, Texas, Ben King of Austin, Texas, Andy King of New Berlin, Wisconsin, Kellie (Matt) Morgan of Elgin, Jessica (Robert) Morrison of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Katie (Waylon) Clairday of Bakersfield, Nicole (Jason) Green of Bakersfield, Courtney (Ed Riggenbach) of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Emily (Ben) Rodriquez of Cary, Illinois, Molly King of Hampshire and Cade King of Lexington, Kentucky and 12 great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother, Howard Handlin and sister, Bette Erickson.

There will be a public visitation from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 16 at Rochelle United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the service at White Rock Cemetery,  in Kings.
