ROCHELLE — The Flagg Township Museum will host “Hobo Jungle – Gone but not forgotten,” an event at the Ken Wise Railfan Park on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 4-6 p.m.

The event includes history and Iinteractive stories around the campfire along with “hobo fare” —  free if you bring canned goods, $1 if you don’t. In addition, s’more kits and bottled water will be available for purchase.

Did you know that Rochelle had several “jungles” where hobos would gather? What made Rochelle a good location for a “jungle”? How did they know Rochelle was a good place? Who were some of the hobos who came through Rochelle? Find out the answers to these questions and more at the event. Bring a donation of canned goods for free “hobo fare” or pay only $1 for a typical hobo meal.

Watch for more information about several upcoming museum events. In November there will be a special event for Veterans Day, Decorate the Museum Day on Nov. 27 and Santa at the museum on Dec. 3. Contact the museum to find out more about how you can participate in the Decorate the Museum event on Nov. 27. Individuals and groups are encouraged to sign up to decorate a tree for the holidays. The decorated trees will be on display throughout the museum until the end of the year, so start thinking of an idea and gathering your supplies to be a part of this display. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in this museum this year, pending any changes due to the pandemic, on Friday, Dec. 3 from 5-7 p.m.

The drawing for the three winners in the Christmas Cash Raffle fundraiser for the museum will also be held on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. Raffle tickets are available at the museum or use the donation tab on the website (www.flaggtownshipmuseumrochelle.org).

The mission of the Flagg Township Historical Society and Museum is to stimulate interest in Flagg Township history through education, research, collection and preservation of information for the benefit of the public of today and in the future.
