ROCHELLE – The City of Rochelle and Rochelle Police Department announced the promotion of Terry Inman to the position of deputy police chief on Wednesday.

“Terry’s demonstrated leadership and professionalism in all situations make him an excellent choice for the position,” City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh said. “I have complete confidence in his ability to join the leadership team of the RPD.”

Inman has been a member of the RPD since 2001 and has served as a patrol officer for three years and a detective for 17 years. Inman graduated from Rochelle Township High School and served in the US Navy following his high school career. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement administration from Western Illinois University and a master’s degree in biosecurity and disaster preparedness from St. Louis University and has also served as the city’s emergency management coordinator for just over five years.

“I am humbled and excited to be selected. I look forward to the future challenges and successes in the role and within our department,” Inman said.

Inman has training in domestic terrorism, drug and gang investigation, homicide investigation and sex crimes. He serves as a member of the Illinois Attorney General’s internet task force, ILEAS mobile field force and child death review team. Inman and his family reside in Rochelle.

“DC Inman is a highly-educated, top-notch professional in the field of law enforcement,” RPD Chief Eric Higby said. “I look forward to watching him grow in this new position.”

Inman fills the position following the retirement of Deputy Chief Jeff Leininger. The deputy chief is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the department and oversees detectives, sergeants and dispatchers.
