OREGON — Johnny Asbury, Sr., 77 passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Serenity Hospice Home in Oregon.
He was born on March 25, 1944 in Dry Creek, West Virginia, the son of Jessie and June (Allif) Asbury. Johnny married Linda M. White on June 30, 1968 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Rochelle, she preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2009, his wife of 41 years. He later married Barbara Jean Bratton. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard Asbury, and sister, Janet Bradford.
Johnny worked for Maplehurst as a truck driver prior to retiring. He enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, hunting, camping, racing, building race cars, wood working and especially time with his grandchildren.
Survived by his wife, Barbara Asbury; five children: Jeannie Hayes of Missouri; Dawn Orr of Oregon; Johnny (Lynn) Asbury Jr., of Richland Center, Wisconsin; Ronny Asbury of Oregon, Adam (Melanie) Asbury of Franklin Grove; two brothers: Bobby (Diana) Asbury of Marysville, Ohio, David (Judy) Asbury of Polo; three sisters: Rita (Steve) Bailey of Boise, Idaho; Geneva Belcher of Dixon and Judy (Murphy) Bailey of Byron; 11 grandchildren: Blaine and Shelby Asbury, Cheyenne Asbury and Chelsea Orr, Crystal, Travis and Michael Brooks, Dakotah Asbury and Starr Gillette and Marissa Clark and Karlee Asbury and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. Cremation will follow visitation. Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 17 at Trinity Memory Gardens with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating. Visit www.UngerHorner.com to sign the online guest book.
