ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Junior Tackle football teams hosted Sterling at Helms Park on Saturday, Aug. 24. The eighth-graders improved to 2-0 on the season with a 36-8 win, while the seventh-graders fell to 1-1 on the season with a 32-0 loss.
Both the sixth-graders and the fifth-graders suffered losses as well, with the sixth-graders falling 24-16 and the fifth-graders losing 22-0. Rochelle will return to action on Saturday, Aug. 31, when the Junior Hubs will host Princeton at Helms Park.
8th Grade
Mikey Chadwick rushed for a team-high 76 yards and one touchdown on on eight carries for the eighth-graders in their win over Sterling. Vinny Tornabene followed with 71 rushing yards and one touchdown on four carries, while Braxton Bruns rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns on four carries. Nolan Zick rushed for 28 yards and one touchdown on three carries to aid the Rochelle offense in the win.
Quarterback Riley Smith rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown on two carries while completing 2-of-3 passes for 23 yards including a 20-yard touchdown throw to Braxton Bruns. Defensively, Kolton Cragin recorded two pass breakups, while Charlie Kettleson and Vinny Tornabene each forced one fumble in the win. Xavier Hueramo and Joey Chadwick led the defense in tackles with three each.
6th Grade
Quarterback Grange Kissack tossed two touchdown passes for the sixth-graders on Saturday, connecting with Noah Hayden for a 65-yard score before finding Brayson Bouland for a 23-yard score.
