Junior Tackle: Rochelle teams battle Princeton at Helms Park

Eighth-graders win 38-0 to remain unbeaten, sixth-graders earn 16-0 victory

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Junior Tackle teams returned to Helms Park for Week 3 of the 2024 season on Saturday afternoon. Rochelle faced off against the Princeton Junior Tigers, with the eighth-graders scoring a 38-0 win to remain unbeaten while the sixth-graders recorded a 16-0 shutout victory. The seventh-graders fell 12-6 and the fifth-graders lost 30-6.

8th Grade

Vinny Tornabene rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown on eight carries, while Braxton Bruns rushed for 56 yards on six carries and Nolan Zick ran for 47 yards and one touchdown on two carries to lead Rochelle's rushing attack. Quarterback Riley Smith completed 2-of-5 passes for 44 yards and two touchdowns including a 30-yarder to Braxton Bruns and a 14-yarder to Joey Chadwick to lead the Rochelle offense through the air.

Braxton Bruns spearheaded the charge on defense, recording four tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a touchdown. Joey Chadwick and Mikey Chadwick each had a pass breakup, while Ben Morris notched one sack and Frankie Hernandez had two tackles for loss. Charlie Kettleson totaled a team-high 4.5 tackles on the defensive side. Rochelle improved its record to 3-0 with the win over the Junior Tigers.

7th Grade

Quentin Ansteth scored Rochelle's lone touchdown against Princeton, rushing for a 3-yard score. The Junior Hubs moved to 1-2 overall with the loss to the Junior Tigers.

6th Grade

Dominic Escatel and Gavin Smith rushed for touchdowns to lead the sixth-graders against Princeton. Escatel broke loose for a 65-yard touchdown run, while Smith reached the endzone on a 6-yard touchdown run. Rochelle bumped its record up to 2-1 with the win on Saturday afternoon.

5th Grade

Michael Vaughn's 34-yard touchdown run helped Rochelle avoid the shutout in the loss to the Junior Tigers. The Junior Hubs are now 1-2 on the season.
