Eighth-graders suffer first loss, three teams remain perfect

The Rochelle Junior Tackle program hosted Princeton on Saturday, with the Junior Hubs finishing 3-1 over four games. The eighth-graders fell 14-8 while the seventh-graders emerged victorious 30-6. The sixth-graders defeated Princeton 34-0 and the fifth-graders won 30-0. Rochelle will have a bye week before facing Stillman Valley at home on Saturday, Sept. 4.

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Junior Tackle program hosted Princeton on Saturday, with the Junior Hubs finishing 3-1 over four games. The eighth-graders fell 14-8 while the seventh-graders emerged victorious 30-6. The sixth-graders defeated Princeton 34-0 and the fifth-graders won 30-0. Rochelle will have a bye week before facing Stillman Valley at home on Saturday, Sept. 4.

8th Grade (1-1)

Roman Villalobos started the Junior Hub offense with a 15-yard run in the first quarter. Brode Metzger followed with 21-yard rush and a 12-yard rush of his own. Trailing 6-0, Rochelle took the lead in the second quarter, when Metzger intercepted a Princeton pass and returned the ball 70 yards for a touchdown. The Junior Hubs held an 8-6 lead over Princeton at halftime.

Gavin Neale paced the Rochelle offense with a 10-yard run and a 15-yard run in the fourth quarter. Princeton scored its second touchdown late in the fourth quarter to win the game. Neale finished with 59 rushing yards, while Villalobos added 38 yards on the ground. Metzger totaled a team-leading four tackles, while Van Gerber and Markell Pogue each added three tackles in the game.

Manning_1

7th Grade (2-0)

Dylan Manning exploded for two first-quarter touchdown runs, scoring on a 62-yard rush in the before adding a 55-yard touchdown run soon after. After Brody Bruns found Manning for a 17-yard pass play, Jonathan Andrist surged down the field for a 61-yard rushing touchdown. The Junior Hubs led 22-0 after the first quarter, which included a 52-yard run from Bruns.

Andrist scored his second touchdown of the game in the second quarter, breaking loose for a 40-yard rush to the end zone. Joshua Lassiter stepped up on defense for Rochelle, returning an interception 32 yards in the second quarter to put the Junior Hubs in scoring position again. Manning led Rochelle with 149 rushing yards, while Andrist finished with 101 yards on the ground. Warren Schweitzer recorded 7.5 tackles and Bruns ended the win with seven tackles.

Liebhaber

6th Grade (2-0)

Bo Lundquist proved unstoppable for Rochelle, totaling four touchdowns including a 65-yard rushing score in the first quarter. On the next Junior Hub drive, Cohen Haedt connected with Holden Liebhaber on a 24-yard pass before Lundquist punched in a 9-yard rushing score.

Lundquist extended Rochelle’s 16-0 lead in the second quarter, finding the end zone on a 38-yard rushing touchdown before following with a 39-yard rushing touchdown on the next drive. Leading 28-0 at halftime, Rochelle sealed its victory with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Haedt to Liebhaber. Zachary Johnson chipped in an 11-yard rush in the fourth quarter.

Lundquist led the Junior Hubs with 154 rushing yards in the win. Dominick Joyce and Elijah Schweitzer each had 5.5 tackles, while Tyson Pavlak added two tackles in the victory.

J Chadwick

5th Grade (2-0)

Braxton Bruns scored all four Rochelle touchdowns in the win. Bruns bounced outside for 65-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter before adding a 53-yard rushing touchdown with the Junior Hubs leading 8-0. Bruns scored on a 51-yard rush in the second quarter and a 35-yard rush in the third quarter to seal the Rochelle win. Joey Chadwick chipped in a 25-yard run.

Bruns led Rochelle with 228 rushing yards in the victory, while Joey Chadwick finished with 31 yards rushing. Bruns recorded 8.5 tackles and Mikey Chadwick added three tackles in the win.
