STREATOR — Rochelle’s youth dancers made their mark on the floor at Streator High School this past weekend as part of the Just For Kix Together We Dance Competition. The competition featured 575 total dancers on 93 teams from Just For Kix groups across the state, who gathered on Sunday, March 5 to strut their stuff.
Dancers at various levels including wee, mini, middle, junior and senior battled for the top spots all day long, with Rochelle placing 12 teams in the top 3 for several different styles of dance including hip-hop, jazz and lyrical.
Three Rochelle teams took home first place including Mini Kix, Mini Jazz and Middle Jazz, while Wee Kix, Wee Jazz and Wee Hip-Hop placed second along with Mini Hip-Hop. Mini Lyrical, Middle Kix, Middle Hip-Hop, Junior Kix and Junior Lyrical each landed in third place
The Rochelle Just For Kix group is made up of 132 dancers ranging from ages 3-18. Dancers can start competing as early as kindergarten for hip-hop and second grade for all other classes. The director of the program is Kass Smith, while Lizbeth and Jessica Hueramo serve as head hip-hop instructors and Cecillia Stover operates as the head instructor for lyrical and ballet.
