ROCHELLE — Lela Carolyn Ackland, 82, of rural Compton, passed away Saturday, June 12, at Liberty Village of Rochelle. Carolyn was born Dec. 24, 1938, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Leland and Florence (Koonts) White. She married Lloyd Ackland on July 10, 1971, at the Fairfield Methodist Church in Fairfield, Iowa.

Carolyn blessed many others through her teaching, music and ministry. She taught second grade and special education for nine years in Davenport and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She taught piano lessons for about 30 years and poured her heart into her students.

She had been first chair clarinetist in Fairfield High School. She was a dedicated church pianist, organist and choir director and wanted to share her joy of music with everyone.

Carolyn was a devoted servant in women’s ministries, VBS and children’s ministries at Ashton Bible Church and was a member of the Gideon’s Auxiliary.

She had an incredible green thumb and loved to bless others with her flowers and plants. She was a spiritual mentor to several women and a devoted friend.  She loved her family dearly and served her husband, children and grandchildren with her whole heart.

She came to saving faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 20 and lived the rest of her life following Him. She was a fervent lover of scripture and lived it out with her life.

She believed Psalm 37:4 – “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”  She was known for her bright smile, unique sense of humor, warm hospitality, and her friendliness to all.
