The Rochelle Little League 10U Softball All-Stars battled at the Illinois Little League State Championship tournament this past weekend, finishing 1-2 with losses against Plainfield and Beardstown as well as a victory over Moline. Rochelle fell 16-0 against Plainfield on Friday before beating Moline 17-7 on Saturday and losing 15-0 to Beardstown on Sunday.

BEARDSTOWN — The Rochelle Little League 10U Softball All-Stars battled at the Illinois Little League State Championship tournament this past weekend, finishing 1-2 with losses against Plainfield and Beardstown as well as a victory over Moline. Rochelle fell 16-0 against Plainfield on Friday before beating Moline 17-7 on Saturday and losing 15-0 to Beardstown on Sunday.
Plainfield
Plainfield surged ahead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring eight runs on six walks and one single. Leading 8-0, Plainfield tallied one run on four walks and one double in the bottom of the second inning before recording seven runs on four walks and four singles in the bottom of the third inning. Mya Martinez pitched the final two innings for Rochelle, striking out three batters. Ella Behrens added one strikeout in one-third of an inning to start the game.
Moline
Rochelle took the early lead against Moline, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. Chloe Escatel, Ariana Hueramo and Braley McGee each scored on passed balls after drawing walks, giving Rochelle a 3-0 advantage before Mya Martinez scored on an error. Clara Millard slapped an RBI single to the shortstop to plate Jamie Riddell and put Rochelle up 5-0. Escatel then scored Isadora Hueramo on an RBI groundout before Millard scored on a passed ball.
Moline tallied four runs on three walks and two singles in the top of the second inning. Riddell reached on a fielder’s choice and scored Rochelle’s one run in the bottom of the second inning. Moline earned one run on an RBI groundout in the top of the third inning before Rochelle compiled three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Ariana Hueramo singled and stole home before Martinez plated McGee with an RBI single and eventually scored on a passed ball.
Moline answered with two runs on one single and two walks in the top of the fourth inning. Leading 11-7, Rochelle scratched two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Escatel singled and scored on a passed ball before McGee’s RBI groundout brought Ariana Hueramo home. Rochelle sealed the win with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Elise Hardcastle scored on a passed ball before Martinez drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Escatel. Misha Krawcewicz drew a hit-by-pitch to score Ariana Hueramo and McGee scored on a passed ball for the win. Martinez and Ella Behrens each struck out three batters on the pitcher’s mound for Rochelle.
Beardstown
Ella Behrens, Ariana Hueramo and Nevaeh Rodriguez each drew walks in the loss against Beardstown. Beardstown exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning before sealing the victory over Rochelle with four more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
