FREEPORT — The Rochelle Little League 10U Softball All-Stars dropped their semifinal matchup against Freeport in the Illinois Little League District 19 Championship tournament, falling 16-6 in five innings to move into the consolation finals against Sterling.

Three players singled and had one RBI including Braley McGee, Ariana Hueramo and Chloe Escatel. Mya Martinez and Ella Behrens each singled in the loss. Escatel scored two runs, while four players including McGee, Martinez, Amada Ortiz and Jamie Riddell scored once.

Martinez and Behrens each threw two innings for Rochelle, with Martinez striking out five batters and Behrens recording three strikeouts. The two pitchers held Freeport to one hit.

Freeport jumped ahead with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Escatel walked and scored on an error for Rochelle’s one run in the top of the second inning. Behrens recorded a one-out single, but back-to-back strikeouts by Freeport ended the Rochelle threat.

Freeport added three runs on three walks and two Rochelle errors in the bottom of the second inning to make it a 7-1 game. Freeport took full control of the game in the bottom of the third inning, scoring eight runs on eight walks and two hit-by-pitches to go ahead 15-1.

Rochelle finished strong in the loss, scoring five runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the Freeport lead to 15-6. Martinez singled and scored on an RBI single from Escatel before Escatel crossed home plate on a passed ball. After Riddell and Ortiz drew walks, McGee stepped up with a two-RBI single to score Riddell and Ortiz. Hueramo delivered an RBI single in the next at-bat to plate McGee. Freeport sealed the win with one run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
