Methodist church to host blood drive

ROCHELLE – Rochelle United Methodist Church will host a blood drive with Rock River Valley Blood Center from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 at Hicks Hall.

Donors can make appointments online at or by calling 815-965-8751. Walk-ins are also welcome.

The blood center needs to see 700 donors per week as the only provider of blood products and services to 10 regional hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin.

If you’re a first-time donor, please bring a photo ID. You can donate whole blood every 56 days. The process is safe and simple, and one unit can save up to three lives.

You are in general good health: you have a normal temperature, blood pressure, pulse and meet the hemoglobin guidelines.

You are 17 years old (or 16, with parental consent.

You weigh at least 110 pounds.

It has been at least 8 weeks since your last whole blood donation.

Most medications will not defer you from donating blood. Conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure do not necessarily disqualify you from donating blood.

It is recommended that donors eat a meal within four hours prior to donating.
