ROCHELLE — The second presentation of checks to local not-for-profit groups from the From the Heart committee was held Thursday afternoon.

The final two groups were presented with their $7,000 checks by committeeman Dave Eckhardt and representatives from the Rochelle Rotary Club including President Greg Folmar and President-elect Sarah Flanagan.

“We are just so happy to be able to give each group $7,000 this year,” Eckhardt said.

The groups receiving checks on Thursday include Shining Star Children’s Advocacy Center – Michelle Folkers, and the Rochelle Christian Food Pantry – Mary Gensler.

Last week, the first group of recipients was presented with funds. Those groups included the Rochelle Area Community Foundation, HOPE of Ogle County, Focus House, Hub City Senior Center and CASA.

Money for each of the not-for-profit groups is raised annually through the Rochelle Rotary Club From the Heart event which was held at the beginning of February. Due to COVID-19, this year’s event was held virtually, complete with an online auction. Annual Cash Calendar sales also contribute to the funding.

This year the event raised the most money it ever has, allowing for each group to receive $7,000. The money for the groups comes from the From the Heart event as well as the Rochelle Rotary Club Cash Calendar sales. Also at the presentation lunch on Thursday, Eckhardt announced that another not-for-profit will be added to the recipient list next year.

“We are adding Pegasus Special Riders to the recipient group next year,” Eckhardt said. “We are excited to be able to add them to the recipients of the From the Heart proceeds.”

Board member Shar Meadows was present Thursday for the announcement.
