Spring Lake construction nearly completed

ROCHELLE — The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Board Meeting Monday saw newly-elected and appointed commissioners Tim Hayden, BT Carmichael and Joe Lenkaitis sworn in to their positions.

One commissioner position still remains open on the board.

Hayden was appointed president, Commissioner John Dobbs was appointed vice president, Commissioner Dale Wells was appointed treasurer, Commissioner Jodie Hart was appointed assistant secretary and Lenkaitis was appointed assistant treasurer.

Outgoing commissioner Mic Brooks was given a plaque for his years of service before departing.

Austin Stolte was announced to the board as superintendent of parks and facilities. The Rochelle resident said he’s excited about the job.

“He has a vast knowledge of construction and equipment,” Executive Director Jackee Ohlinger said. “He’s signed up for the certified pool course and playground safety.”

Zeke Evans was also announced to the board as the district’s new aquatic manager. Evans has 10 years of experience in aquatics and is a certified lifeguard and pool operator. Current Aquatic Assistant Marianne Swanson will serve as interim manager while Evans gets acclimated, Ohlinger said.

Spring Lake

In her report to the board Ohlinger said the Spring Lake construction project is nearing its end. Painting will occur this week, weather permitting. A grand reopening is planned for Saturday, June 5.

Part of the project includes a splash pad at the facility.

“That’s us being able to make it free to the community and lengthen our season,” Ohlinger said. “Kids that work as lifeguards go back to school before the weather gets worse. The splash pad will make that part open. So far, it’s looking really wonderful.”

A $295,166.92 payment was unanimously approved for Sjostrom and Sons Construction, the fifth and final for the Spring Lake project.
