ROCHELLE — The City of Rochelle and Rochelle Township High School District #212 partner this school year to bring a School Resource Officer into RTHS. Rochelle Police Officer Pete Pavia has filled the position.
The proposed agreement mirrors one in place with Rochelle Middle School. The RTHS Board of Education will contribute 66 percent of the officer’s compensation. This is a 3-year agreement with an additional year if both parties agree. The city is responsible for the salary and benefits during the summer.
“The Rochelle Elementary District has enjoyed a positive experience with Officer (Jim) Jakymiw in the middle school over the past several years and we look forward to the same with Officer Pavia at RTHS,” said Jason Harper, superintendent of Rochelle schools.

Officer Pavia has 23 years of law enforcement experience, has been to school resource officer training, and is an A.L.I.C.E. (active shooter) instructor.
“Being a School Resource Officer has always been a goal. I very much look forward to this new journey,” Pavia said.
Pavia began his position at the school on Monday.
