Preparing for Summer Reading

Posted

The Flagg Rochelle Public Library District is getting ready for Summer Reading.  Our flyers will be coming out soon. The theme for Summer Reading this year is “Read, Renew, Repeat.”

Summer is always a busy time at the library.  We begin to see more students in the building and families coming in to check out materials and attend our cool library programs.  Every year things are a little different, but we also try to keep some things the same.  Change is good, but the library also needs to be a familiar place where you can come and relax, read and have fun.

What does Read, Renew, Repeat mean to you?  Most of our patrons come in and check out a book or two, many renew their books and then return them and repeat the process over again. Why do we need to renew? We renew because we are not finished with the book.  We are not finished reading and learning about everything that the title has to tell us.  We can be entertained by books or use our imagination to take us to faraway places.  Books can take you anywhere.  We can learn things and explore subjects that we have never learned about before.  After we are through, we come back to the library.  The place in your community where you can return, check things out on any subject and find the information you need.  At our library, we want you to come back, visit, get a library card, checkout your books and “Read, Renew and Repeat” throughout the summer months.

Our Summer Reading Program will focus on another way to examine the words “Read, Renew, Repeat.” and that is through conservation. “Designed for all ages, our summer reading program will feature the idea of conservation. Conservation as a movement focuses on protecting species from extinction, maintaining and restoring habitats, enhancing ecosystem services, and protecting biological diversity. iREAD 2024: Read, Renew, Repeat” makes for a wonderfully diversified summer reading program that encourages reading as a restorative method of self-improvement and self-preservation.” (https://www.ireadprogram.org/resources/summer-2024-read-renew-repeat)  Our program this year will focus on the environment, animals, conservation, gardening and recycling.  We want our readers to love the environment and take care of our planet.  Severson Dells and the Burpee Museum will be coming to talk about wildlife conservation and habitats.  Patrons of all ages are welcome to join us.  Our flyers will be coming out soon.

When you are planning your Rochelle Staycation for the summer months make sure to keep the library in your plans.  We have programming for all ages and are excited to see you at the library.  Remember to bring your library card.  See you soon.
