ROCHELLE — Richard D. Whaley, 71, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024 surrounded by his family.  Rick was born on April 26, 1953 to Leland and Doris (Long) Whaley in Rochelle.  On April 2, 1977, he married Joan Bingham in Rochelle. 

 Rick lived a life full of love, music and all things outdoors.  Most of all, his family brought him the most joy.  From jeeping to camping to playing music, he and Joanie made a life full of good stories, beautiful family and many good laughs.  His love for dogs, woodworking and fishing kept his soul especially happy. 

Rick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan of Rochelle; three children: Rachel (Matt Mueller) Whaley of Madison, WI, Nicole (Tom) Wyatt and Jason Whaley both of Rochelle; three brothers: Ron Whaley of Rochelle, Ken Whaley of Peoria, IL, and Terry Whaley of Rochelle; seven grandchildren: Marisa Whaley, Dylan Whaley, Kelly (Shawn) Standfast, Kara (Tony) Kettleson, Ethan and Noah Wyatt, and Clayton Mueller; five great grandchildren: Ainsley, Luke, Liam, Logan and Livy and lifelong friends, Mike and Darrolle.

In addition to his parents, Leland Whaley and Doris Emke, Rick is preceded in death by his grandson, Leland Mueller; brother, Randy Reeves and sisters-in-law: Carol and Nancy Whaley.

There will be a celebration of Rick’s life on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the Rochelle Conservation Club, 3501 S. Sweeny Rd., Chana.  The memorial visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:45 A.M., with the memorial service following at 12:00 P.M. A memorial will be established.
