ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Police Department released surveillance photos Friday of two individuals suspected of passing counterfeit money in three area businesses within the past week.
Police chief Eric Higby said all four of the counterfeit $100 bills had the same serial number — G21681745A.
The police department is cautioning business owners when accepting large bills to make sure they are not counterfeit. In these instances, the suspects made small purchases to receive the largest change possible.
“We want everyone to be aware of what is going on,” Higby said.
The community is advised to call the police department immediately if a counterfeit bill is located; do not try and detain the person. Get a description of the individual and their vehicle, if possible.
The suspects were both seen traveling together in a silver Chevrolet Suburban.
Anyone with information about this is urged to call the Ogle-Lee Crime Stoppers at 1-888-228-4488. A reward of $1,000 is paid for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the offenders.
